As a basic over-generalization, shield tanking is better for lone wolfing and armor tanking is better for running with a balanced squad.

I have two Logi fittings. The first uses the injector, the repair tool, and nanohives; the second also uses the nanohives and the repair tool, but replaces the injector with a drop uplink.
